About Eryn Martyn-Godfrey

I’m Eryn, a Clinical Animal Behaviourist working with dogs and the people who care for them.
My professional journey began in 2007, and over the years my work has been shaped by hands-on experience, continued study, and a deep respect for dogs as sentient, learning beings. I support people through situations that feel overwhelming or stuck, helping them understand what is happening and what can realistically help next.
I work carefully, thoughtfully, and at a pace that allows meaningful change to take place without unnecessary pressure.
If you’re not sure where to begin, the Ways to Work With Me page will help you figure out where to start.
How I work
Over the years, I’ve been called a witch more times than I can count. Not in the sense of mysticism, but in the older meaning of the word. Someone who brings knowledge, care, and steadiness into situations that feel uncertain.
My work is grounded in evidence-based behaviour practice, clinical reasoning, and careful observation. I pay close attention to learning history, environment, emotional state, physical wellbeing, and the small details that shape behaviour over time.
This way of working often makes change feel more manageable than people expect. When the whole picture is understood, the next steps become clearer, calmer, and more achievable.
I do not use or recommend techniques or tools that cause fear, pain, or intimidation. My approach prioritises welfare, safety, and trust, and supports families to build understanding and clear communication with their dogs.

Professional background and clinical practice
I am a Clinical Animal Behaviourist registered with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC), and an Animal Training Instructor.
My CAB APEL application was recognised as outstanding by the ABTC assessment team, meeting all knowledge and understanding requirements and receiving positive feedback for clarity, insight, and professional reflection.
I work within recognised professional standards and referral pathways and, where appropriate, alongside veterinary professionals. My practice includes both straightforward training support and more complex behaviour work involving fear, anxiety, reactivity, and longer-standing concerns.
I have worked professionally with dogs and cats across London since 2007, offering consultations in clients’ homes and online, and supporting families across a wide range of circumstances.
Teaching, mentoring, and professional contribution
Alongside client work, I mentor trainers and behaviour practitioners who want to work ethically, reflectively, and within recognised industry standards.
I have served on the board of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT C.I.C.) as Director of Member Management, supporting member engagement, professional development initiatives, and accessible, inclusive practice.
I was also a Victoria Stilwell Positively Dog Trainers mentor and tutor, and have supported multiple students through successful assessment.
This combination of clinical practice, teaching, and mentoring informs how I work. It allows me to support both people and professionals with clarity, care, and realistic expectations.

Ongoing learning and professional development
Effective behaviour support begins with continued learning.
Since 2007, I have committed to regular CPD, attending seminars, workshops, and courses across a broad range of topics. These include behaviour science, pharmacology, canine health, assistance dogs, scentwork, child safety, and applied learning theory.
My CPD has included learning with leaders in the field, alongside ongoing participation in professional discussion groups and reflective practice. This ensures my work remains aligned with modern, ethical, evidence-based behaviour science.
Media and public commentary
My work has been referenced and quoted in national media, including ITV This Morning, where I have contributed to discussions around dog behaviour, welfare, and responsible training.
Where appropriate, I also support journalists and producers seeking evidence-led commentary on canine behaviour and learning.
Professional memberships
I work within recognised professional standards and am registered with, or a member of, the following organisations.
